THE Cebu City United Vendors Association (CCUVA) and workers of barangay Ermita staged a protest in front of Cebu City Hall condemning Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s order to close the CCUVA office on the second floor of the Carbon market.

The protestors complained about the discrimination of market vendors, the reduction of honorarium of barangay workers and the recall order on barangay vehicles.

Barangay Ermita chairman Felicissimo Rupinta said the city’s reacquisition of the service vehicles would hamper their delivery of services to their constituents.
He said reducing their honoraria also made life difficult for them.

Rupinta said he passed the barangay council’s position paper to Osmeña and the City Council last Monday. CCUVA chairperson Joe Racaba also denounced what he described as “Osmeña’s repression” on Carbon market vendors.

Due to the closure of the CCUVA office, Racaba said the heads of the association were not invited to the consultations of the market administrators with the vendors.

Racaba said they would ask the City Council to enact an ordinance that would regulate market vendors operations./UP Cebu Intern Patrick Gattoc
