JASON BOURNE: Great action adventure film

MATT Damon returns to the role that he made his own more than 14 years ago in this latest outing, “Jason Bourne.”

And no doubt this is a movie that was never going to be made.

Damon made it emphatically clear after “The Bourne Ultimatum” in 2007 that he was done with this series and wanted nothing more to do with Jason Bourne.

Well, that’s just Hollywood talk for “show me the money.”

And along with series director Paul Greengrass likewise returning to helm this latest outing of the CIA with memory issues, think of Jason Bourne as a “soft” reboot of the franchise. You can just about forget Academy Award winner Jeremy Renner (“The Avengers”) and a less than successful “The Bourne Legacy” and an attempt at taking Mr. Damon at his word that Jason Bourne was gone for good.

Well, Renner is out and Mr. Damon’s Jason Bourne is back to stay.

It’s been seven years (Hollywood Time) since Jason Bourne has disappeared, but like a jack-in-the-box, out he pops up and everyone at the Central Intelligence Agency, especially its Director, Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) are frantic to know why.

For you see, Jason Bourne knows every single little dirty secret that the CIA has done and plans to do around the globe. As our world spirals in
uncertainty, it’s Jason Bourne who jumps into the fire to save the day.

And he either is Tony Stark in disguise with unlimited wealth to leap from one world capital city to another — not to mention a frantic evening car crash up on the Las Vegas Strip — that constantly gives headaches to the “intelligence” corps in Washington D.C.

Again returning to the Bourne series is the seldom seen but really great Julia Stiles as Bourne’s maybe, possibly, could-be lover, girlfriend, wife or best buddy.

Well, when you can’t keep a coherent thought for more than an hour, it’s a convenient excuse.

Besides the greenbacks, Damon also stated he would never come back without Greengrass directing the series. No doubt the director got a very large payday for this outing as well.

Jason Bourne is a great action adventure film — sans memory — as one CIA agent after another is crushed, stuck with a knife, shot a close range …

Well, you get the picture.

Since this is Damon’s fourth outing as the super-spy Bourne, he eats a lot of steamed/boneless chicken as part of his dietary routine. He is no doubt less of a fan of any fast food chicken establishments.

However, it’s Jason Bourne this time around who is being hunted by a nameless assassin who absolutely, positively does not stop until the film’s finale.

And this is what the Bourne series really needed. A jolt of super caffeinated cola in the guise of Vincent Cassel who really ramps up the danger quotient for Bourne. Of course, Tommy Lee Jones’ Dewey is pulling the strings to put an end once and for all to Jason Bourne.

If you are a fan of the Bourne series, as is this writer, you will know in advance that Jason Bourne is extremely violent —to an extreme — and parents should keep anyone 17 years or younger away from this film.

Of course, Damon is a handsome hunk who can carry a film all his own. Last year’s Academy Award nomination for his role in “The Martian” proved that.

But with a superior cast surrounding him, great location shots and an unrelenting villain nipping at his heels, you could do worse than spending your next two hours visiting the world of Jason Bourne.
