SWU PHINMA expands support with tuition discounts and more scholarships for SY 2026–2027

By: - April 11, 2026

Cebu City, Philippines — In response to the growing economic challenges faced by Filipino families, Southwestern University PHINMA (SWU PHINMA) reinforces its commitment to accessible, world-class education by introducing expanded financial support for School Year 2026–2027.

Visit the Enrollment Hub located at the SWU Marketing Office near SWU Medical Center, open Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, to secure your slot.

As the largest health science university in the Visayas and Mindanao, SWU PHINMA is rolling out a tiered tuition pricing program for incoming freshmen. This approach considers both a student’s basic background (place of origin and college readiness) and their family’s financial capacity, ensuring that those who need more support receive greater assistance.

Under this program, regular students may receive tuition discounts of up to ₱20,000 per semester, applicable across all college programs until graduation. This allows students to redirect savings toward daily expenses such as accommodation and transportation. The initiative also extends to current students of SWU, who may coordinate with the Student Life Department for eligibility and mechanics.

To further widen access to quality education, SWU PHINMA has opened an additional 1,000 slots for its HK Scholarship—one of the largest scholarship programs in the country. Designed for low- to middle-income students, the HK Scholarship provides significant tuition support from the first year until graduation, with no maintaining grade requirement. A number of slots are also available for qualified international students.

For aspiring doctors, the HK Scholarship for Medicine remains open, offering ₱50,000 to ₱75,000 in semestral discounts throughout the duration of the program. This initiative continues to expand access to the 80-year old university, the first medical school outside Metro Manila.

SWU PHINMA has also increased slots for its Through and Through Scholarship, supporting incoming Grade 11 students with discounted tuition through senior high school and continuing until they complete their chosen college program in SWU.

In May 2026, the university will launch the PHINMA Scholarship, a full-ride program for top-performing incoming freshmen. The scholarship includes full tuition coverage, monthly allowance, and book subsidy, and is open to students graduating with honors in SY 2025–2026.

Rooted in its commitment to Cebu, SWU PHINMA has prioritized students enrolled in Cebu-based schools for these expanded opportunities.

“As an institution, we believe in inclusive excellence, where students from different backgrounds and starting points are all given the opportunity to succeed. Our role as educators is to provide access to a deliberately demanding yet genuinely supportive academic environment, where they can thrive, pass their board exams and/or get employed immediately here and abroad,” said Cheryl Jane Chan, Chief Operating Officer of SWU PHINMA.

“We are committed to walk with our students as they complete their chosen programs and succeed – not just for themselves, but for their families.”
