FIFTY illegal settlers of the Osmeña Shrine staged a silent protest in front of Cebu City Hall Monday morning.

Most of the settlers originally came from Barangays Lahug, Kamputhaw, Kalunasan and Mabolo but transferred to an area within the Osmeña Shrine.

Last October 11, the city government’s Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement (PROBE) team started demolition of the shanties in the area.

But they were stopped by Councilor Pastor “Jun” Alcover who said the city government needs a court order to proceed with the demolition.

The silent protest was held by the illegal settlers to magnify their disapproval of Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s decision to demolish their houses.
