A fire broke out at the stock room of a cargo ship scheduled to depart for Manila from Pier 7 in Mandaue Reclamation area at past 2 pm Thursday.

The fire hit the engine room of Manila Bay 1, a cargo ship weighing 15,000 gross tonnage and owned by Carlos Gothong Lines.

Fire investigator Jude Nacua of the Mandaue City Fire Station said he was told by Francisco Mejares Jr., the shipping firm’s legal officer, that some of the crew noticed a spark from the engine room’s electrical wiring which caused the fire.
