Sol Canino IN HIGH GEAR

Sol Casiño

Sol Casiño

SOL Casiño is addicted to something—the thrill that comes with getting into things rough and risky.

With his interest in action-packed roles (he dreams of starring in films someday), Sol fearlessly engages in parkour, described as a “training discipline that includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and other moves to get from one point (as in a building) to another.”

Constantly drawn to daredevil stunts, Sol grew up wanting to be a policeman, or a fireman. For now, you see him hosting events around the city, or strumming a guitar while belting out his signature set in a bar in Talisay.

“Mutukar ko sa Talisay, ang tawag namo ana gud kay “bugto-panty” set, mga pampakilig nga songs ba (laughs) like ‘Collide,’” he says in jest.

Read more about Sol’s ideaof fun and living according to his own rules, without restrictions. He maintains that life is
too short not to give in to your passion.

We learned that you also do theater?

Didto to nagsugod sa “The Lost Anthem.” I auditioned for the role. (smiles)

Who encouraged you to audition?

Si Nicole Blackman. Kami-kami ra man tuklod-tuklod. I think gamay ra man jud mi (artists) diri gud, if naa mi makuha nga events and then naa pay space for other people, magtinabangay ra mi. Mas ganahan ko ani nga culture nga naa namo karon gud, maski gamay ra mi nga grupo kay wala’y mu drag down. Tinabangay, walay mag iyahay.

How did the audition go?

Actually, I was intoxicated during the auditions (laughs). Mao to didto nag-start. Wa ko nag-expect makuha nako to nga role. Usually man gud, I audition bisan asa, ikuyog lang ko. Di lang ko mag-expect, unya madawat ra man pud so okey ra. Naa pa jud kos Cagayan ato, pagtugpa nako,
timing nga ni-contact sila mao nga nibalik dayon ko.

Have you always been interested in theater?

Ang imong tan-awon ana gud kung gi-unsa nila pag-act ug portray because every scene has a different flavor, with the artists nga musud.

It’s like kada gabii nga rehearsal. Mahulog nga heavy kaayo ang emotions. You have to relate to the character, withappropriate level of emotions.

If it’s a heavy drama, where do you draw your inspiration?

I just live the character. It all points to my turning phrase in acting that a good actor is a thinking actor. Maskin wala ka naka-experience ana, as long as you do your research about it and put your heart into it.

What’s the most challenging part?

It’s having chemistry with your partner and fellow actors. The singing part is okay, and in terms of dancing, there’s a choreographer. It’s
always about chemistry because dili mani iyahay gud the moment you step on the stage, dapat alsahay jud mo… eventhe characters in the background.

As an actor, what’s your dream role?

I like action roles, like Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Alien vs Predator” where they were in the jungle and being hunted by a predator. Another role I like is Wolverine.

So you also see yourself getting into mainstream films.

Not really. I prefer being in independent films kay watered-down ra kaayo ang mga action scenes sa mainstream. In indies, the scenes are much more raw and real.

You are into parkour as well.

Yes. We had a gym along North Reclamation Area seven years ago. It was called Parkour Sugbu. I was the co-founder. Sa Abellana mi mag meeting. Lingaw kaayo ko sauna ana kay igkahuman og klase, ambak dayon kos bintana namo.

What’s the hardest stunt you did?

I jumped from a 15-foot structure. Lahi ra jud iyahang thrill or adrenaline high. I got
injuries from doing it but worth it kaayo.

In terms of singing, what’s your repertoire?

I am really into rock and roll. But we are planning to make a YouTube channel, with Nicole Blackman.

What instruments do you play?

Guitar. I’m starting to compose songs now, more of bugal-bugal nga kanta.

Of the many hats you wear, which do you prefer: that of a thespian, a singer or adrenaline junkie?

COVER - aIMG_9167

I don’t want to be branded exclusively as a thespian, a host or a singer. But akong gikalingawan karon kay ang film.

Growing up, what did you want to become?

Ganahan ko ma-pulis, fireman or ma-action star.

When did you start getting tattoos?

Ang first tattoo nako kay in high school. It’s a tribal design on my left leg. I’ve always been drawn to radical things, and a tattoo is one of those considered a radical art because it’s not something you hang on your walls. This kind of art you wear on your skin.

At 25, do you get any pressure from your parents?

I recently had a talk with my dad. I said I don’t want to travel to the US for now. Nakahuman man kog physical therapy and most of our relatives are there naman, so it would be easy. But I want a job that involves being in the outdoors kay di ko mahimutang og opisina or clinic. Nisabot raman pud sila.

At what point will you slow down?
