THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) added another championship to their extensive collection as they downed the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 88-80, in the finals of the Cebu Youth Basketball League Under-19 division last Saturday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Canduman, Mandaue City.
UV’s experience shone in the fourth period as it pulled away after initially trailing at the half, 34-42.
After former Adamson Baby Falcon Denzel Sabroso and Kenneth Brillo pulled UV ahead, 58-56, by combining for 16 markers in the third, the Lancers kept on coming as Brillo and Renz Ortiz sparked an 11-0 run to give them a 73-62 lead.
Moments later, Sabroso connected from downtown—his fifth of the game—to give UV a 10-point lead, 76-66, with time down to 4:45.
Sabroso finished with 26 points while Brillo backed him up with 23. Ortiz added 15 while Ivan Maata notched 14 markers.
John Aguilar led Ateneo de Cebu with 15 points while Ray Lewis had 14. Carlos Canoy chipped in 13 and Josh Barrientos added 11.
