Draft Academy, one of Cebu’s pioneering creative design schools continues to expand its range of course offerings with the launch of their new 2D Animation Program. The year-long, intensive, hands-on training course delves into the basics of animation including cartooning, storytelling and figure drawing. It then progresses into intermediate skills such as storyboard development, coloring and rendering, and art direction. The program culminates with students developing their very own short animated film. Classes will commence on Monday, March 19 with a few slots remaining open.
Students will be mentored by two-time award-winning digital artist and cinematographer, Karl Derick Sia, who has received recognition for his recent short animated film Hinagunoy sa Goryon. He has worked in editing, storyboarding, animating, and occasionally dubbing in student short films, but is at his best when it comes to animation.
Industry veteran Agnes Desiree Villas will also be one of the instructors, specializing in digital backgrounds, character design, and frame-by-frame animation. Working alongside her is Belenda Pon, a character designer and animator who does character illustrations, caricatures and animations for marketing, personal events and children’s songs. Both of our lady instructors are currently a part of a team of animators and character designers developing graphics for games for international clients.
Joining the team of mentors is illustrator John Yu, a self-taught artist who focuses on imaginative realism, and portrays it using the digital medium.
Draft Academy opened in 2012 with its flagship program in Visual Design; an intensive one-year training course in graphic design, advertising, and branding. Since then it has also added short-term, month-long classes in Photoshop and Illustrator. All these courses are offered at Draft Academy in The Greenery, Mabolo, while the 2D Animation Program will be held at the Draft Extension School at The Henry Hotel, Banilad.
