INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES
THE P638-million Mambaling underpass project on N. Bacalso Avenue is 80 percent complete.
Engineer Roy Dela Cruz, Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7) project engineer, said in an interview on Friday that the project would be completed and operational this March 2019.
“We are now wrapping up Phase Four of the project and may enter Phase Five before December,” said Dela Cruz.
“In Phase Five, we will be starting the actual digging of the underpass itself. Doing so, we can now open the side roads of the underpass,” he added.
He said they would open the service lanes of the Mambaling underpass in December, which would help alleviate the worsening traffic congestion, which was caused by the ongoing work on the underpass project.
“This is because our construction is already ahead of schedule. The fair weather we’ve been experiencing recently have helped the contractor (WT Construction Inc.) to work faster,” added Dela Cruz.
This development is a welcome news for commuters and motorists especially those from southern barangays of Cebu City and from southern Cebu.
Presently, Cabreros Street is closed for traffic since the construction of the underpass’ foundation has reached there.
In the meantime, the one lane of N. Bacalso Ave. that remains open for traffic will accommodate northbound vehicles while those southbound will be diverted to access roads connecting the highway.
“Cabreros Street maybe reopened to traffic by mid-November,” said Dela Cruz.
