CEBU CITY, Philippines–Sports and tourism advocates gathered Wednesday, March 27, to discuss a wholistic approach to sports tourism in the region.

Department of Tourism in Central Visayas (DOT-7) Regional Director Shalimar Tamano has long identified sports as having potentials to boost tourism here.

Others who attended the gathering represented various sports like adventure races, marathons, paragliding, dragon boat racing and extreme sports, among others.

Ugur Tasci of Dynamic Herb Sports sees bright prospects for sports tourism.

Philip Campbell of the Cebu Dragons Rugby Football Club express interest in developing more athletes from outside Luzon.

Alice Queblatin, president of Cebu Association of Tour Operators Specialists, said their group looks forward to working with different tourism groups and develop new products./dcb
