CEBU CITY, Philippines—Local officials of Minglanilla town in southern Cebu decided to suspend and put under review their decision to reimpose the need for quarantine passes when going out.

The local government unit (LGU) of Minglanilla, in an advisory published on February 16, 2021, said they will stop rounding up individuals caught violating the reimplemented protocol.

This after Minglanilla Mayor Elanito Peña received concerns from constituents there about the adverse effect of reviving stricter quarantine restrictions, which took place last February 15.

“Apan sa unang implementasyon kagahapong adlawa nakita sa mayor nga daghan ang nasag muyo gumikan kay daghan ang maapektohan niini. Hinungdan nga e suspenso kini ug under for review ang mga lagda sa Health protocols sa atong lungsod,” portions of the advisory read.

(However, on the first day of the reimplementation yesterday, the mayor observed that a lot were disappointed since it adversely affected a lot. As a result, we decided to suspend this and place under review all orders in line with health protocols in our municipality.)

But they added that they will continue to arrest individuals caught not wearing face masks and face shields, penalty of which amounts to at least P500.

To recall, Minglanilla decided to reimpose stricter quarantine restrictions such as reviving the need for quarantine passes when going out, and following the designated schedule as means to address the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) there.
