Surgeon dies after being shot by patient

An orthopedic surgeon was fatally shot by his wheelchair-bound patient in his clinic at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Cebu City past 9 a.m. Thursday.

Cris Cecil Abbu succumbed to a gunshot wound in the chest .

The assailant was identified as Wilfredo Sabonsolin, 72, who committed suicide after killing the doctor, police said.

Witness said Sabonsolin was talking to the doctor when he suddenly drew a .380 revolver and shot Abbu.

Sabonsolin then shot himself in the temple.

Abbu was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room where he died at 10:30 a.m.

Saponsolin had gone spine operation four times.
