CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu Provincial Government promised to give assistance to workers and tour guides in areas affected by the declaration of Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, said the Capitol is planning to provide relief goods such as sacks of rice, canned goods, and other essential items for employees in the tourism sector of Oslob town in southern Cebu.

“Atong tabangan ang mga boatmen didto sa Oslob ug ang mga nagtrabaho sa sandbar kay under MECQ, prohibited man ang outside tourist attractions,” said Garcia.

The governor has asked Oslob Mayor Jose Tumulak Jr. for a list of the names of affected tourism workers in his municipality.

Garcia also said they will grant the same assistance to other local government units who requested help from the Capitol such as Minglanilla.

A total of 11 localities in Cebu province were reverted back to MECQ with heightened restrictions since Wednesday as part of the provincial government’s measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

These are the towns of Samboan, Sibonga, Argao, Cordova, Oslob, Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and the cities of Talisay, Carcar, and Naga.

Oslob, a fourth-class municipality located approximately 118 kilometers southeast of Cebu City, is a popular tourist destination.

Some of the famous tourism activities there included whale-shark watching and visiting Sumilon Island.
