MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Police are eyeing personal grudge as possible motive behind the killing of a 52-year-old trisikad driver in Tipolo Ville, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City Tuesday night, September 7, 2021.

Police Major Jonathan Dela Cerna, chief of the Guadalupe Police Station, said they are looking at the possibility that Mario Impas may have been involved in an argument prior to the shooting incident.

Dela Cerna said that they will also be doing a background check on Impas to determine whether or not he was also involved in illegal activities.

“Naa ta’y nadawat nga unconfirmed report nga medyo di maayong balita regarding sa iyaha. [But], ato panang i-check,” he said.

(We received information that he was involved in something illegal. But we are yet to verify this information.)

Dela Cerna said that Impas would frequent Ponce Compound in Barangay Capitol Site.  But he would most of the times sleep at his sibling’s house in Barangay Guadalupe.

The body of Impas was found with gunshot wounds in a dark alley located a few meters away from his sibling’s home.

Police are still waiting for his autopsy report to determine how many bullet wounds he sustained and what caused his death.

They are also waiting for the ballistics result of the empty shells that were found close to the body to determine the kind of firearm that was used to kill him.

Dela Cerna said they are also looking for witnesses who can give them a clear narration as to what happened Tuesday night while they also try to find a closed-circuit television (CCTV) near the crime scene hoping that its footage will help them identify the gunman, who was said to have fled on a motorcycle.
