PIYESA 2025 takes the lead in redefining communication

The spotlight is set on the future communicators as the University of the Philippines Manila presents PIYESA 2025, this year’s highly anticipated conference, happening at the UP Manila Theater this May 7, 2025. 

Also known as the annual OrComference—a term coined to reflect its roots as a conference organized by Organizational Communication (OrCom) students, PIYESA showcases the depth and versatility of communication.  

Spearheaded by Batch 2026, PIYESA redefines what it means to be a communicator in a changing world. More than an event, PIYESA is a culmination of strategic thinking, leadership, collaboration, and advocacy—geared to dismantle outdated narratives about the OrCom discipline.

With the theme “Komunikasyong Makamasa, Nag-uugnay at Nagpapalaya”, PIYESA aims to break the mold that limits Organizational Communication to bureaucratic and corporate echo chambers. Instead, it boldly positions OrCom as a transformative force that connects people, industries, and advocacies— each being an essential piece in constructing a better and more equitable society.

The name PIYESA itself, meaning “piece” in Filipino, reflects this vision. Like the components of a seamlessly functioning system or the elements of a finished artwork, every communicator and every student is a vital piece of a bigger picture. The conference invites attendees to take apart, examine, and reassemble the pieces of OrCom– seeing how strategy, creativity, advocacy, and human connection can all work together to serve both career goals and community calls.

At its core, PIYESA wants to be the voice that will reach both OrCom and other communication students, reminding them that there is more to the field than titles, templates, and technicalities. The conference encourages students to see themselves not just as future employees, but as key drivers of social impact, change, and connection.

This year, the organizers have honed in on a key question: How can we make organizational communication truly transformative—beyond profit and systems, beyond polished speeches, and for the people?

PIYESA 2025 is not simply about information-sharing; it’s about perspective-shifting. Through trailblazing speakers, thought-provoking discussions, and creative performances, the conference demonstrates how OrCom is a key force in transforming systems through media and marketing to health, governance and plenty more—highlighting how the industry’s many parts come together to create lasting societal change.

“Just as a masterpiece is built from carefully crafted components, OrCom is composed of interconnected skills that shape industries, drive advocacy, and transform systems. PIYESA 2025 breaks down these elements to better understand how they work together in the real world,” said PIYESA’s event director, Ms. Kirsten Lopez. 

With a deeper understanding, students can begin piecing together their future with clarity and purpose. Equipped with insights from PIYESA, attendees are empowered to navigate various industries, bridge communication gaps, and become catalysts of change that stand as one with the masses.

The event also speaks to UP Manila’s spirit of service and scholarship. As Iskolar ng Bayan, the student-organizers behind PIYESA champion the responsibility not only to learn and lead, but to uplift. This makes the conference not just a celebration of the OrCom program—but a platform to advocate for communication that informs, empowers, and transforms. 

PIYESA is a statement, a story, and a strategy. It is a call for students to look at communication not just as a job skill, but as a social force. In every panel, every insight, and every voice that takes the stage this May, PIYESA will demonstrate how the smallest pieces—when connected—can create something powerful.
