Cebuano sports media in historic ALA card in California

CARSON, CA.– Even before the first bell rings for Saturday’s “Pinoy Pride 33: Philippines vs The World” at the Stub Hub Center here, the event is already a sure-fire winner, at least in the heart of a good number of Cebuano sports journalists who will be at ringside for the event, historic in itself being the first show put up by a Philippine-based promotional outfit here in mainland United States.
Cebu, already the hotbed of Philippine boxing, also boasts of the most supportive sporting media as far as boxing is concerned, a fact not lost on sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, who describes Cebuano sports media as among the most supportive anywhere.
And for this first ever event promoted by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN in the United States, it is but fitting that the Cebu media will be aptly represented.
Cebuano sports scribes covering the event include The Freeman sports editor Emmanuel Villaruel, who was also at special ringside when ALA Promotions held its first show in Dubai; Jun Migallen of SunStar Superbalita and Edri Aznar of SunStar Cebu.
Philboxing.com founder Dong Secuya, the genius behind Asia’s top sports website, will also be at special ringside on Saturday when the bouts take place.
This writer will be representing Cebu Daily News, Philippine Daily Inquirer, and Philboxing.com.
Meanwhile, “Pinoy Pride 33″ organizers have announced that the event will be telecast “Live” on Sky Cable pay per view on Sunday morning Manila Time at a price of P299. The fight card will also be telecast in Nicaragua and on Bein Sports, according to veteran sportswriter Ronnie Nathanielsz.
ABS-CBN Sports & Action will telecast the event on a slightly delayed basis at 11:00 a.m. with a replay of the fights on “Sunday’s Best” on the evening of October 18.
