Magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocks City of Bogo, Cebu on April 6

Cebu City, Philippines — [Updated] A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Cebu and neighboring areas in the Visayas on Monday, April 6, 2026.
The epicenter of the temblor was located 17 kilometers southeast of Bogo City in northern Cebu, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the same epicenter of the deadly 6.9-magnitude quake that occurred roughly seven months ago.
It was a shallow quake, with its depth measuring only 10 kilometers from the surface.

Intensities were also reported across the Visayas.
Phivolcs Intensity IV in San Francisco, Cebu, and parts of Leyte, while Intensity III was felt in Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Talisay, and other areas in Cebu and nearby provinces.
As of 3:40 p.m., the earthquake is not an aftershock of the September 2025 temblor.

Power grid in Cebu stable following Bogo earthquake — NGCP
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Power transmission services in Cebu remained stable after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off Bogo City on Monday afternoon, April 6.
“The grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions and damaged transmission facilities in Cebu Province and nearby areas where the earthquake was felt,” the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said in an advisory.
