Enano pulls off massive upset, captures IBO title in Australia

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Sem Japet Enano delivered a stunning upset, toppling previously unbeaten prospect Tyrell Adams on his home turf in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, April 8.

The Filipino fighter scored a dominant unanimous decision victory over Adams in their eight-round showdown at the William Inglis Hotel.

Enano, who entered the bout as a heavy underdog, earned a clean sweep from the judges, with Chris Aliendi, Andrew Lazich, and Charlie Lucas all scoring it 80–72 in his favor.

With the win, Enano improved his record to 8–2 with three knockouts, while Adams suffered the first loss of his career, dropping to 6–1 with three knockouts.

“He’s younger. I know he will be a champion one day,” Enano said of his opponent in the post-fight interview. “He’s hard to hit because he’s taller. I needed to pressure him.”

Enano’s constant pressure

Both fighters opened the bout cautiously, measuring each other with calculated movements. Adams relied on his reach advantage, keeping Enano at bay with jabs, while the Filipino remained composed and patient.

As the fight wore on, Enano began to impose his will, applying constant pressure and landing the more telling blows that forced the Australian onto the defensive.

Adams tried to maintain distance behind his jab, but Enano’s relentless forward movement and well-timed combinations gradually took control of the contest.

Enano capped his dominant performance by landing solid power shots and even staggering Adams in the later rounds, sealing the convincing decision victory.
