MANILA, Philippines  – A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is forecast to bring rains over the eastern section of the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Wednesday.

In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA, located 670 km. east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

However, the trough of the LPA will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical depression that is expected to enter PAR as a tropical storm between Friday evening and Saturday.

As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, the tropical depression was located 2,395 km. east of northeastern Mindanao, moving westward at 10 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Once inside PAR, it will be assigned the local name “Caloy”, the third cyclone in the country this year.

The entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Temperatures will range from 24.1°C to 33.5°C. (PNA)
