Borbon buy-bust: Couple arrested, P170K shabu seized
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 29-year-old farm handler listed in the PDEA-PNP Regional Target List and his 32-year-old live-in partner were arrested during a buy-bust operation in Borbon town, northern Cebu, on Wednesday evening, June 3.
Confiscated during the operation were five packs of suspected shabu weighing around 25 grams with an estimated average market value of P170,000.
The operation was carried out at around 9 p.m. in Sitio Galaban, Barangay Poblacion by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) and Borbon Municipal Police Station.

Buy-bust operation
PDEA-7 identified the target of the operation only as alias “Mervin,” 29, a farm handler from Barangay Masaba, Danao City.
Also arrested was his alleged accomplice and live-in partner, alias “Gladys,” 32, a housemaid and also a resident of the same barangay in Danao City.
Authorities also recovered the marked buy-bust money and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the suspects’ illegal activities.
The seized drug evidence was submitted to the PDEA-7 Regional Office Laboratory in Lahug, Cebu City for examination and proper disposition.

Case buildup
Authorities said the arrest capped more than a year of surveillance and case buildup against the suspects.
Investigators alleged that the pair had been engaged in illegal drug activities and had adopted measures to evade arrest.
According to PDEA-7, alias “Mervin” would frequently transfer residences whenever his contacts were apprehended by authorities.
Anti-drug operatives also alleged that the suspects were capable of disposing of between 25 and 50 grams of illegal drugs weekly.

Charges to be filed
As of Thursday, June 4, the suspects of the Borbon buy-bust are currently under the temporary custody of PDEA-7 pending the filing of charges.
Authorities said the couple will face complaints for the alleged sale of illegal drugs in relation to conspiracy and for alleged possession of illegal drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
