A Child from Mindanao Needs Help

Ivy Egga Pasagdan, an 11-year-old girl from Poblacion, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte, is appealing for help to sustain her ongoing chemotherapy treatment. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. Ariel and Mrs. Lynlyn Pasagdan, a family who are registered beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Those who wish to donate may contact Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation Inc. – Cebu through cellphone number 0933-194-0197 and landline number (032) 239-6168.

Ivy was born healthy, her newborn screening results were normal and had only minor health issue in her health records. However, in July 2025, she started experiencing body pains and joint discomfort. As her condition worsened, her parents brought her to Cebu City on October 30, 2025, for further medical evaluation. Diagnostic procedures were done and her bone marrow studies showed findings consistent with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). This is a type of blood cancer which has a high cure rate with intensive chemotherapy. The treatment has to be administered for three years to achieve cure.

Despite her illness, Ivy remains cheerful and full of dreams. She enjoys watching Korean dramas, loves eating fried chicken, and her favorite color is purple.  Her dream is to play the piano, own her instrument, and use music to express herself and find comfort when times are tough. Even more, she hopes to become a teacher so she can help young children learn to read and write.

Ivy says her greatest inspiration is her family. Her mother stays at home to take care of her and her younger sister. Ivy sees the sacrifices her parents make every day and feels grateful for the love and care they continue to shower her. Her father lost his job as an Agricultural Technician and accepts odd jobs to support Ivy’s ongoing chemotherapy treatment which costs around P5,000 every week. This huge cost is beyond their means, thus, her family is appealing for financial assistance from kindhearted individuals to keep Ivy’s 3-year- treatment going.
