While 2016 may be an unbalanced year, it is also filled with opportunities, an international feng shui expert said.
Marites Allen said the Chinese zodiac places 2016 as the Year of the Fire Monkey.

The imbalance comes from the dominance of fire, the presence of metals and the absence of water elements.

Allen, who was born in Cebu and graduated from the University of San Jose-Recoletos, said there’s a need for Cebu to change direction and expand outward.

She said the dominance of the fire element indicates strong competition, which is why investment and development should be outward to ease the effects of competition.

Allen advises local government officials to pursue projects that allow people to reach other places faster.

“It is high time for Cebu City to continue its Bus Rapid Transit project. BRT allows ease in traffic and encourages people to move around a lot,” she said.

She also views development on the SRP as an innovative way to disperse the people from central areas of the city.

“It’s a good place to expand. It is close to the water element, and the lack of that element this year will contribute to a better balance in fortune,” she said.

Allen said 2016 will also be a good year for the tourism sector and the transport sector because this encourages people and expansion away from central locations.

But Allen says the fire element may also signal imbalance in this year’s elections.

“Fire elements will create a very fiery and argumentative year, but there will not be enough to cool down,” she said.

Politicking and in-fighting will be prevalent in the year as well due to flared tempers.

Allen said this opens opportunities for matriarchal figures and women leaders who can be calm and introspective.

“In 2016, women will be more powerful and favorable than men, because men will appear a bit short-fused and will be involved in more arguments,” she said.

But Allen said anything can happen on May 9, election day, which she predicts will be an “open day” or will remain neutral.

The year’s fire elements, aside from creating imbalance in the political sphere, will also create some imbalances in relationships, family life, and especially in health.

“The imbalance this year should encourage everyone to actively want to be secure. One should put one’s self, one’s family as a first this year,” she said.

This means everyone should avoid stress and care for oneself, Allen said.

Concerning the economy, Allen told Cebu Daily News that people should be careful in their investments especially those born in the Year of the Tiger which is a natural enemy of the monkey.

She said the stock market will also perk up in the second half of the year, so one should be wary of investing in the early months of the year.

While the fire element in the Year of the Monkey can causes stress in relationships, Allen said it will do good for people to remain optimistic and face challenges head on.
