Rain or Shine’s Guiao, Belga fined P20k

RAIN OR SHINE head coach Yeng Guiao was slapped with a P20,000 for bumping San Miguel guard Chris Ross during a heated semifinals series-opener of the PBA Philippine Cup Tuesday evening.

The incident happened at the start of the third period as Ross was about to inbound the ball. Guiao bumped Ross, which caused an altercation that was exacerbated when Rain or Shine big man Beau Belga came in and shoved the latter.

When the dust settled, Ross, Guiao and Belga were all assessed with technical fouls.

However, that was not the end of it as the league office also handed down a P20,000 fine on Belga.

No suspensions were handed out.

That incident seemingly lit a fire from under the Beermen, who woke up from their stupor and rallied from a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to win Game 1, 109-105.

Guiao is no stranger to fines as he has racked up a bill amounting to six-figures in a long and storied coaching career.

The Beermen and Elasto Painters lock horns once again today with the reigning Philippine Cup champions seeking to gain a 2-0 advantage in this best-of-seven affair.
