Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma announced on Thursday afternoon that the “Statio Orbis” or the closing Mass of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) on Sunday will be held at the South Reclamation Properties (SRP).

Palma explained that there is no other site in Cebu City that is big enough to hold one million people who are expected to attend the Mass where Pope Francis is expected to deliver a message via a live satellite feed from Rome.

The Holy Father will also announce the venue for the next IEC in 2020.

On Wednesday, the 27-hectare vacant lot inside the SRP was flooded and muddy due to the incessant rains.

But Palma said gravel will be placed on the flooded grounds.
