Keep that fire in your belly! In the Year of the Red Fire Monkey (Feb. 8, 2016 to Jan. 27, 2017) there will be more than enough action and opportunity to keep you busy.

The Chinese apply five elements (Metal, Earth, Water, Wood and Fire) into the Chinese calendar, commonly known as the Farmers’ Calendar or the Hsia Calendar. Monkey is in the Fire group and the color of Fire is connected to Red, so 2016 is the Red Fire Monkey year.

Here are highlights from the general predictions of feng shui experts:

RAYMOND LO, one of the most sought-after professional Feng Shui and Destiny consultants in the world. A native of Hong Kong, Mr. Lo has appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, Australian TV’s “Today Show,” and the Discovery Channel’s “Feng Shui Makeover,” CNN’s “Tech Watch,” and Asia’s “Bloomberg.”

– The industries that will perform well in the year of the Monkey will be industries related to Fire and Water elements. Fire industries are energy, stock market, finance, entertainment. Water element refers to transport, shipping, communication. Earth industry will be active and productive, but money element to Earth is Water, which is not obvious. In general, the Fire Monkey year is a symbol of optimism, flexibility and progress. There is still conflict and disharmony in international relationship and may not be a peaceful year, but people are optimistic, open-minded, confident and innovative to bring solutions to obstacles. Also natural disasters like fire, explosion, nuclear issues tornados and hurricanes as well as environmental disasters and epidemic still prevail.

– In the Monkey is a strong Metal element and hidden inside is yang metal, yang water and yang earth. Yang metal is a destructive element representing a sword or a killer weapon. Yang water is powerful ocean water with aggressive energy. It indicates clashes related to the ocean or conflicts at sea, and so it will not be surprising if the tension on disputed territories in South China sea may escalate.

– 2016 is a good year to give birth and all babies born this year will automatically have the “Academic star,” which means intellectual quality and a strong desire to learn.

MARITES ALLEN, the first and only Filipina to be awarded the prestigious title Master in Feng Shui by the world-renowned International Feng Shui Association. Dubbed as the “Philippine Feng Shui Queen,” she is the consultant of choice of many top executives and prominent personalities in media, entertainment, and public office.

– The Monkey Year is very fortunate for Monkey-born people. The zodiac ally of the Monkey, the Dragon, and the Monkey’s secret friend, the Snake, may share the same good fortune. Other favored animal signs are Rooster and Rabbit.

– The Rat is also a zodiac ally but this is not a favorable year because the number 7 is in its star, which stands for robbery and violence. The Tiger, who is the conflict animal of the Monkey, may have difficulties as well. Other zodiac animals that need to take care are the Ox, Boar and Dog.

– The Philippines will maintain its good luck cycle in 2016, basking in fame and fortune.“The Filipinos are talented. They will continue to bring honor to the country,” she said.

– The mischievous Monkey will bring instability in economy, relationships and business. With the Fire element, volatility is high and our personal safety is at risk. “People will be more concerned about making money and do whatever it takes to get ahead of the game,” says Allen. “Be strong. Otherwise, opportunities will be snatched so easily and without mercy. It’s easy to lose friendship over money.”

HANS CUA, “the youngest Feng Shui Master in the Philippines and Asia,” studied to become a Feng Shui Master, gaining a diploma as a Feng Shui Master Practitioner, specializing in Feng Shui, Bazi or Chinese Astrology and Zi Wei Dou Shu or decoding a person’s life path and destiny through the use of their birth date and birth time.

– In politics, individual efforts will be rewarded more than group efforts. Collective movement tends to be in disarray because it will be every man for himself. The outcome of the national elections should yield some surprises.

– The element of gambling or risk-taking will be strong under the influence of the Fire Monkey. “This is a good time to launch new ideas, make upgrades or begin an expansion in business. But plan all your moves carefully. Just like a gambler the outcome of any venture could either be a big win or a big loss,” Cua said. “Be wary of deceptions, in business as well as in politics, since the ruthless spirit of the Fire Monkey also intensifies double-dealing and dishonesty.”

– Expect promotional ventures, arts and all forms of social media to be at peak. “…thanks to the Fire Monkey’s unrestrained craving to be successful and to self-promote. Yang Fire creates fun, creativity, excitement and glamour, and this will be a very good year for entertainers and artists,” Cua said.

– Some lucky charms as ideal new year gifts are the “wealth Buddha” for business enhancement, “Mandarin duck” for singles to attract love luck, “waving cat” for inviting wealth into stores, and “Monkey King” figure for a prosperous and guided year. Blue is the lucky color for 2016.

JOSEPH CHAU, feng shui expert and respected geomancer based in Hong Kong, gives a general forecast of the economy and political climate of the Philippines based on the country’s official birthdate of 3 p.m., June 12, 1898, or the first declaration of Philippine Independence in Kawit, Cavite.

– “The Philippines has too much of the fire element. We need a president that has a lot of water (to cool the fire) or a lot of metal (i.e., fire can forge metal).” Also, the one “who wants to be President of the Philippines should be born in autumn (the months August, September, November, December of any year); it cannot be summertime. It’s better that they have the water or metal element. So the chance for them to win in next year’s elections is higher.”

– In the Year of the Fire Monkey, “women will be luckier than men.”

– The monkey, he said, is smart, intelligent, cunning “and also cheats; everyone must be alert to swindlers, because there are so many.” Thus, he warns of investment scams or get-rich-quick schemes, fake medical practitioners who charge an arm and a leg for their services.
