A policeman was killed while another was wounded after they were shot by two unidentified gunmen on board a motorcycle while watching a cockfight in Barangay Kalawisan, Lapu-Lapu City past 11 a.m. on Saturday.

P03 Antonio Inihao, Jr., a member of the Marigondon police station intelligence division, died on the spot after he suffered six bullet wounds in the chest.

His companion, PO3 Jasper Nuñez, was also hit twice in the chest. Nuñez was brought to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital and was in critical condition.

Senior Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide, head of the Lapu-Lapu City police homicide division, said Inihao had been getting death threats from illegal drug personalities in the city.

Nuñez, who was assigned at the Hoops Dome Police Station, was a good friend of Inihao, he added.

Police said Inihao invited Nuñez to have lunch in his cousin’s house in Kalawisan, which was celebrating its annual fiesta on Saturday.

Since it was still 11 a.m., the two off-duty policemen decided to watch the cockfight before proceeding to the house of Inihao’s cousin.

While watching the cockfight, two men on board a motorcycle suddenly appeared and fired at the two.

Pastorfide said hot pursuit operation against the perpetrators were ongoing. “We have set up road blocks on the island and are checking all possible exits including ports and wharf on the island,” he said.
