5 theft suspects charged

FIVE men were charged yesterday before the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office after they were accused of burglarizing three houses in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

Junrey Regner, RJ Wagas, Bonryl Lauron, Christopher Sotto and Joseph Cabanos were arrested in a follow-up operation conducted by elements of the Basak Police Station.

Senior Insp. Alfred Kuhay, chief of Basak Police Station, said Dindo Despi, Janine Gonjuangco and Renato Layagi sought help from the police after their houses in Villa Sebastina Subdivision were ransacked.

Police said the suspects are the victims’ neighbors.

The victims said the suspects struck when blackout hit the area at around 2:50 a.m. last Monday.

It was only in the morning the next day that victims discovered some belongings in their houses were missing.

Police later arrested the three suspects after some neighbors saw them coming out of the victims’ houses.

Cellphones and a pair of shoes were among the items stolen from the victims’ houses.

Police said Gonjuangco’s iPhone 4S and Despi’s mobile phone were recovered from the suspects.
