Rama promises bigger projects for ‘11-0′

An upgraded traffic system, a city college, a bigger City Hall building in the South Road Properties (SRP) and even bigger roads in Cebu City.

Mayor Michael Rama promised to implement these and more if he and his council make a clean sweep in the May 9 elections during yesterday’s Interactive Forum with Media Leaders at City Hall’s Social Hall.

“Give me 11-0,” the mayor asked the audience of reporters, editors and department heads. Rama also said he is confident of sweeping the elections based on his surveys.

“I have surveys. And I have seven surveys with 45,000 respondents. I have another of my own and another level of survey. And I’m seeing that it is inevitable. It’s just a matter that lies have to be buried and the truth to surface. If the truth will surface, it will set us free and will bring 11-0,” he told the audience.

Rama also pointed to the high turnout for the rallies of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) last March 21 and the opening salvo of Team Rama last March 29, both at the Plaza Independencia.

He said the group’s independent surveys are being conducted by a group not from Cebu who’s been doing it since 1992.

Rama, who arrived at the forum after visits to barangays Banilad, Maria Luisa Village and Barangay Cogon Pardo, said that’s the reason why he won’t engage in a debate with his rival, former mayor Tomas Osmena.

“Indomitably, it’s going to be 11-0. That’s why I don’t sleep and I ask my people not to sleep. Why waste time on a debate? Invest on hard work,” he said.

But Rama said he makes sure not to leave his official work unattended. He said everywhere he goes, there is always a pile of papers with him which he has to sign.

The mayor also called on department heads to ask questions. Among those who did was Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) head Rafael Yap who asked about the mayor’s plans on traffic management.

While saying he isn’t opposed to flyovers, Rama said what the city needs is more road openings and widenings, upgrading of its traffic equipment and an updated traffic master plan among others.

The mayor also talked about re-connecting the SRP with the city’s existing coastal area and integrating the families who will be displaced by the expansion.

He said the SRP will also house a government center including a bigger City Hall since the current City Hall building is already congested.

Rama also said he will build a city college in keeping with a city ordinance that called for a city college that would provide education to the poor and a

Room for Discovery in the Cebu City Sports Center where children can learn art.
