Cops gather more evidence vs Poro chief’s killers

MORE than a week after the death of Poro town police chief, the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) is still gathering more evidence before filing murder charges against the two men who ambushed the police officer in Barangay Consuelo, San Francisco town, Camotes Islands.

“We took a sketcher from Bohol to make the cartographic of the assailants. We shouldered their fare and other expenses from Bohol to Camotes Islands,” said Senior Supt. Clifford Gairanod, director of the CPPO.

Gairanod said that sketches of the two assailants are now available and were shown to witnesses.

The cellphone unit of Senior Insp. Jonas Tahanlangit, who was laid to rest on Monday, was also examined and several text messages of death threats were recovered.

Police are now tracking the owners of the numbers to shed light on the incident. He said that during their background checking, the suspects were apparently linked to illegal drug trade.

“We are still building up the case and make sure it is airtight. We are still connecting evidences such as affidavits, video footages and the result of the autopsy from the crime laboratory,” said Gairanod.

“I admit some witnesses are hesitant to tell what they know,” he said.

It was on April 4 when Tahanlangit, who was on board his black Toyota Hilux pick-up, was waylaid by two men on board a motorcycle.

He suffered gunshot wounds on his shoulder and neck and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Two of his four passengers were injured.
