Volunteers supporting the presidential and vice presidential tandem of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano are aiming for a world record as they plan to gather at least 300,000 people during their candidates’ miting de avance this Saturday afternoon.

Rey Duterte Abad, lead coordinator of the event, said during yesterday’s press briefing that they were aiming to break the Guinness World Record for most people singing a national anthem simultaneously.

He said the supporters in Cebu will simultaneously sing with those participating in the Duterte-Cayetano miting de avance at the Luneta Park in Manila and in Davao City.

Abad said they hoped to gather a crowd of at least 300,000 in Davao, Cebu and Luneta. The three events will be linked through a live feed on wide screen monitors during the miting de avance.

Abad said an estimated crowd of 30,000 to 50,000 are expected to gather in Cebu at the Sugbo grounds at the South Road Properties at 5 p.m. this Saturday.

“It is a show of force. North and south meet at the middle,” he said.

Based on the Guinness World Records website, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh holds the record with 254,537 attendees held at the National Parade ground in Dhaka, Bangladesh on March 26, 2014.
