A late afternoon fire burned at least P500,000 worth of properties in Sitio Cansubing, Barangay Buagsong in Cordova town, Cebu.

The fire burned a two-story house owned by Nicasio and Ermelinda Yosores, their parked Suzuki wagon, a big bike, and at least P70,000 worth of cash.

The fire also damaged the couple’s sari-sari store located at least two meters away from their house.

Nicasio 59, said he noticed smoke and fire coming from their ground floor masters bedroom when he came home about 5:20 p.m. after attending to an errand in the nearby Lapu-Lapu City.

Emerlinda, 56, was then tending their store.

Seeing that the fire was already starting to engulf other parts of their house, Nicasio said, he decided to get out.

But when he remembered the P70, 000 they kept inside their room, Nicasio said, he attempted to go back inside but the fire was already big.

He said he also tried to save his Wagon and bike but failed.

Responding firefighters from the Cordova Fire Department were able contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures. The blaze was put out 40 minutes later.

The Yosores residence was located along the road in Sitio Cansubing.

SFO4 Mario Randy Cuizon said the fire may have started from electrical misuse but they had yet to determine its actual cause.
