THE wrist cuts on the Korean man who was found alive in Thursday’s bloodbath in a restaurant in Lapu-Lapu City were self-inflicted, said police.

But investigators still don’t know what started the violent family fight that ended in the killing of an elderly Korean couple and their daughter.

Kim Se Wong Kim, who was believed to have attempted suicide after the skirmish, remains confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Police said they are looking for documents to establish that he was married to the slain couple’s daughter, Young Mi Ank, who died of knife wounds like her parents.

Police earlier theorized that a family feud was behind the death of restaurant owner Ho An, his wife Kim Soon Ok and daughter,

The couple’s son reportedly arrived from Manila after the police notified the Korean Embassy. The victim’s bodies were taken to the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels for autopsy.

Homicide investigator P03 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-Lapu City said they are looking for documents to prove that the surviving Korean was legally married to the victim, Young. This will determine whether the charges to be filed against him would be parricide or multiple homicide.

Kim was found by responding policemen sitting on a bed in the restaurant’s second floor room. He was bleeding profusely after he was suspected to have slit his wrists in a suicide attempt.

Police consider him a suspect in the killings.

Police said the crime may have been committed at dawn on Thursday based on the account of the restaurant’s security guard who heard screams and a ruckus inside the house.

Pinos said they found the victims sprawled in the kitchen.

The Korean family operated the restaurant for about a year alhtough the couple had lived here much longer. Jover Flores, the manager, told Cebu Daily News the suspect was a “silent type” who would help out in the restaurant and that Kim’s mother-in-law was strict and would often scold him.

The patriarch, Ho An, owned a dive shop in Boracay where he met Kim who was a manager in a Korean restaurant in Manila. After they got married, they put up their own restaurant in Manila and later moved to Cebu and opened a restaurant in Lapu-Lapu City.
