Police eye love angle

By: Apple Ta-as February 25,2016 - 10:10 PM

Two persons were killed and two others got injured in two separate incidents in Sitio Laguna, Barangay Sambag I and in Barangay Pahina Central, both in Cebu City.

In Sitio Laguna, 40-year-old Trevelisa Navales, a businesswoman, died after she was shot by two unidentified men. She succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while her female live-in partner Riza Pepito, 18, sustained three bullet wounds  and was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

SPO2 Ruth Violango, Cebu City Police Office homicide investigator, said two men went to Navales’s residence past 9 p.m. on Wednesday, looking for her son whom they accused of pickpocketing.

When Navales told them she did not know the whereabouts of her son, the two men shot her and Pepito.

But the police are also looking into a love triangle as the possible motive of the crime. Navales earlier received threats from her  husband after engaging in a same-sex relationship.

In Barangay Pahina Central, Luisito Manzanares, 59, a police asset, was killed while his wife was wounded after they were waylaid by a lone motorcycle-riding gunman early morning yesterday.

SPO4 Rogelio Cañete Jr. of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office, said the couple were heading home to Barangay Guadalupe on a motorcycle after buying goods at the Carbon Public Market when the gunman blocked their path upon reaching Borromeo Street corner Sanciangko Street past 5 a.m. yesterday.

The perpetrator then pulled out a gun and shot Manzanares twice in the head before shooting the woman.

Manzanares died instantly, while his  wife was brought to a private hospital. Cañete said police did not discount the possibility that the killing was related to the victim’s work as police asset.
