A DRUG suspect was killed, while his mother was arrested in an anti-drug operation conducted by the Talisay City police last Thursday afternoon in Barangay Tangke.
According to Supt. Aileen Recla of Talisay City Police Station, the authorities were about to arrest Lota Palmero, 49, after she allegedly handed over suspected shabu worth P200 to a police poseur-buyer, when the suspect’s son Antonio, 29, suddenly came out of their house and allegedly attempted to shoot the arresting officer, prompting the latter to shoot him first.
During the commotion, Lota ran away but was caught near the barangay hall of Tangke.
Antonio, who was hit in the body, was brought to Talisay District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
Recovered from Lota were two medium-sized plastic packs containing alleged shabu and P200 buy-bust money. Confiscated from Antonio was a .38 cal. revolver with five bullets.
Recla said the mother and son were already advised to surrender but they refused. Lota is now detained at the Talisay City Police detention cell.
Meanwhile in Danao City, northern Cebu, a couple was arrested for allegedly peddling illegal drugs in their barangay.
Suspects Mark Lao, 39, and his wife Genefona, 39, of Barangay Ylaya were apprehended by Danao City policemen led by Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos around 1 a.m. yesterday.
About P150,000 worth of illegal drugs were confiscated from the couple.
PO1 Mark Anthony Manulat of Danao City Police Station said the couple had already surrendered to the police through Oplan Tokhang last week but they allegedly went back to their illegal drug activities.
Recovered from Mark was a medium-sized plastic pack containing alleged shabu weighing 12 grams, and four small sachets of suspected shabu from Genefona.
In Minglanilla town in southern Cebu, a surrenderer was shot by two unidentified men wearing bonnets.
SPO2 Oliver Dacua of Minglanilla Police Station said victim Jojo Villordon, Obenque, 35, of Barangay Upper Lipata, was with his live-in partner, Fatima Bacus, 20, inside the bedroom when two unidentified men who were wearing masks, suddenly barged in and shot the victim twice at around 10 p.m. last Thursday. The assailants reportedly entered the house through the unlocked door. Obenque sustained gunshot wounds in the chest.
SPO2 Dacua said Obenque was rushed to the South General hospital for treatment.
