AWARD-WINNING actress Jennylyn Mercado has been confirmed as the lead female character Steffi in GMA Network’s adaptation of the Korean TV series, “My Love from the Star.”
The confirmation was made by director Joyce Bernal in a brief interview with PEP.ph on Sunday.
“Si Jennylyn po, siya ‘yung Steffi,” said Bernal, who is set to helm the Filipino version of the hit Korean fantasy drama series that will be aired on GMA Network.
Jennylyn has gone to a training with pageant coach Jonas Gaffud where she was taught how to properly walk on heels and to maintain a good posture all the time.
The training will help as Jennylyn will play Steffi Cheon, who is a big-time actress in the Korean TV series and will eventually become a neighbor of lead actor Matteo Do.
The characters of Steffi and Matteo will cross each other’s paths as it turns out that the young-looking professor is actually an alien who has been living on Earth for thousands of years. Just as he is about to leave, he becomes romantically involved with Steffi.
The question on who will fill in the role as Matteo is yet to be addressed. Pambansang Bae Alden Richards has been initially named to play the role but there has been no confirmation yet.
Direk Joyce explained, “Sa October pa kasi kami pwede mag-convene (with GMA-7). Pero as of now, hindi ko pa alam kung wala na siya (Alden) talaga.”
Set in the Joseon Dynasty and in modern-day Seoul, this romance drama was originally top-billed by Korean stars Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun.
