No more dancing Gwen this Sinulog

While she won’t dance in this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade, former Cebu governor and now Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district said she will join the fluvial procession this year.

“These past few days, a number of you have been posting your questions on whether or not I would be dancing for the Sinulog this year… No, I will not be dancing in this year’s Sinulog.

This time I will be staying in the sidelines. Why? Because circumstances change… and I am no longer the governor of Cebu,” she said in her Facebook post.

But she said “there is one thing that will remain the same… my love and devotion to our beloved Sto. Niño,” which is why she would join the fluvial procession in His honor tomorrow.

In last year’s Sinulog grand parade, the outgoing governor, who made it a point to dance in the parade during her nine-year term, kept people guessing about her role in the Sinulog after she refused to physically leave her office in defiance of a six-month suspension order from Malacanang that kept her holed out in the Capitol.

She eventually came out and appeared in the Sinulog grandstand in a long, beaded gown by designer Cary Santiago, and joined the Liloan contingent in dancing.

Her performance drew a standing ovation from supporters, among them Vice President Jejomar Binay at the Grand Stand.

Aside from Garcia, also joining the Sinulog festivities are Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla III who arrived last night at the Mactan Cebu International Airport with his wife congresswoman Lanie Mercado.

The Revilla couple will be hearing Mass at the Basilica this morning to pray for “the truth to come out” on the pork barrel controversy which they were embroiled in last year.

Revilla is among the senators implicated in the alleged misuse of the pork barrel through bogus nongovernment organizations.

He said he will deliver a privilege speech when session resumes on Monday.

Revilla, a Sto. Niño devotee, said he has been visiting Cebu for the Sinulog celebration for the last 15 years.
