WILL the bad blood between the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the Don Bosco Greywolves from their fracas in a preseason tournament in Cordova town continue to simmer? That question will be resoundingly answered today as the two teams renew their rivalry today in the 16th Cesafi basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
Game time is set at 2:30 p.m. with all eyes trained on this fierce match-up between two teams that went blow-for-blow—quite literally—in a free-for-all that marred the 1st Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho basketball tournament in the town of Cordova last month.
When the dust settled, a total of 22 players were meted with suspensions. On top of that, the two teams were made to pay fines amounting to P55,000 each.
The Baby Lancers and Greywolves are also coming off wins in their season-opening matches.
UV walloped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens, 90-41, behind the usual steady production of burly forward Jancork Cabahug, who had 18. Don Bosco, on the other hand, clobbered the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 81-70, in the season-opener last weekend.
Also aiming for their second win are the three-time defending champions Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, who will be facing CIT-U today. The Magis Eagles are coming off a dominant 113-80 rout of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers.
Those very same Baby Panthers will also see action against the Cebu Eastern College Dragons which debuted with a 74-82 loss to Southwestern University the other night.
In the men’s division, the SWU Cobras will be taking on the CIT-U Wildcats.
