RETIRED Police General Vicente Loot, who is currently the Daanbantayan mayor, said he did not know the Cordova police officer, who had linked him to illegal drugs in an entry in a police blotter before the police officer was found dead in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, a few days later.

“I don’t know him and he was never assigned to me,” Loot told Cebu Daily News in a phone interview when sought to comment on PO2 Ryan Casiban’s entry on the police blotter.

Loot also said that there was nothing on what Casiban wrote on the blotter.

“(There’s) Nothing (that) he wrote (there) saying he is responsible in exposing me to President Rodrigo Duterte would cause a violent reaction from me,” Loot said.

Casiban went missing after he left his work at 2:40 a.m. as the desk officer of Cordova police station last Aug. 10. He was found dead in a lot near a private shooting range in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City two days later.

Casiban wrote on the police blotter that he signed that retired police generals Vicente Loot and Marcelo Garbo were allegedly involved in a big-time drug syndicate operation but were allegedly protected by the PNP because of the big drug money they spread around.

Loot and Garbo were among the five police generals that President Rodrigo Duterte named as protectors of big-time drug lords. Both retired generals denied the allegations against them. /Correspondent Michelle Joy L. Padayhag
