Cash aid to be given in barangay halls, gyms

The City Social Welfare and Services Office clarified that distribution of cash aid will be held in public areas in Cebu City’s 80 barangays on Saturday this week.

CSWS chief Leah Japson said the venues for cash distribution will be held in barangay halls and sports complexes.

Japson issued the clarification to correct reports that that the distribution will be done in private areas controlled by Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) allies.

She said only the city’s cash disbursing officers will be tasked to handle the cash.

“We should not disseminate wrong information to the public. There are no private individuals appointed. The City Hall’s DOs (disbursing officers) are the ones (tasked) to do the distribution. They are not barangay officials or private persons of the barangay,” Japson said.

City Hall scheduled the distribution of P2,000 seniors assistance on Saturday.

Persons with disabilities (PWDs) will get their P1,000 cash aid from City Hall on Sunday.

Vice Mayor Edgar Labella issued a memorandum last week, on his capacity as acting mayor, to order the release of cash aid in barangay halls and sports complexes of the city’s 80 barangays to ensure the safety of government funds and disbursing officers.

But Mayor Tomas Osmeña revoked Labella’s memo upon his return to city hall this week, from his medical check up in the US.
