ONE of the prime movers of the rising “Who’s Next?” Pro Boxing Series is taking a breather.
Chad Cañares informed Cebu Daily News that “I will be taking an indefinite leave from boxing and will no longer be able to continue my tenure as VP/Consultant for Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI) due to personal reasons.”
Cañares spearheaded the creation of “Who’s Next?”, which was launched last March. The boxing series had its second installment last month.
“I have been informed that Mr. James Osorio, who has been with the Omega Boxing Stable for the past decade, will be taking over OPSI’s operations and plans as advised by top management,” added Cañares in a text message.
Cañares is hoping for the best for the newly formed boxing series. “I would like to stress that I am sincerely thankful to our Chairman Pio Castillo, Jr. and OPSI President Pio Paulo Castillo for the trust and confidence they have shown to me the past eight months. My only wish for OPSI is to continue to press forward and succeed with passion in not just promoting the organization, boxers, trainers and staff but likewise to push and promote Philippine boxing and aspiring fighters around the country,” Canares said.
On his way out, Cañares announced that the second installment of “Who’s Next?” will be aired over GMA NewsTV on Aug. 28 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
