IT’S THE end of the road for the last three Cebuano netters in singles play as they soaked up losses in the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) Olivarez Cup 2016 yesterday at the Olivarez Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
After winning two straight games, Bogo City’s Jan Godfrey Seno was unable to sustain his momentum, losing to third-ranked Vicente Anasta, 6–4, 6–3, in the men’s open division.
Losses continued to pile up for the 16-year-old Seno as he was booted out together with his partner Edilbert Alcantara in the men’s doubles division by the tandem of Deo Talatayod and Jigo Pena, 7–6 (5), 5–7, 10–6, before losing to Perpetual’s Kenneth Dumapit in the Inter-School men’s play via walkover due to conflict of schedules.
In other men’s doubles action, Jacob Lagman and Ronard Joven pulled off a walkover victory over the pair of fellow Cebuano Arthur Craig Pantino and Ken Salvo.
In the distaff side, Cebuanas Hannah Espinosa and Janna Pages bid farewell to their championship hopes in singles play after losing to separate opponents.
Pages, who is suiting up for Ateneo De Manila University, failed to make it into the next round losing to Erika Manduriao of the University of Sto Tomas, 6–2, 6–4, in the quarterfinal round of the Inter School Division – Ladies Singles while Espinosa bowed to Shaira Rivera, 6–2, 6–4, in the women’s open.
