Tropical depression Agaton to move away, but rains will still hit Cebu

The state weather bureau Pagasa said the low pressure area hovering over the Visayas and Mindanao developed into tropical depression ”Agaton.”

As of 10:30 a.m. today, it is reported to be 260 kilometers Southeast Guiuan of Eastern Samar or 130 kilometers Northeast of Hinatuan Surigao Del Sur. Cebu will experience light to moderate with occasionally heavy rains all through out the day.

Pagasa weather analyst Lenoardo Samar said Agaton is “forecast to move southwest at 5 km per hour or away from Central Visayas.” Samar said even if Agaton is headed away from Central Visayas, Cebu will still be affected by northerly winds. As of 5 a.m. today, winds were clocked at 52 to 63 kph, while sea condition is rough to very rough and waves were measured at 3.4 to 4.5 meters high. The next gale warning will be validated at 5 p.m. today.

Asked if this kind of weather will remain until Sunday, Sanico said they expect “windy with light to moderate rains” during the Sinulog. There were no cancelations of tomorrow’s fluvial procession so far.
