AT least one barangay in Cebu City experienced problems in the distribution of the P1,000 financial aid to persons with disabilities (PWDs) yesterday.
City Social Welfare Services (CSWS) chief Lea Japson said 40 PWDs from Barangay Duljo Fatima were unable to receive their aid from the city government yesterday due to confusion on the schedule for the distribution.
“Out of 190 PWDs, 40 were unable to claim because they were informed by people from the barangay that the distribution won’t push through since the point person in the area is not the incumbent. Ila gilawgaw (They disrupted the distribution),” Japson said.
Japson clarified that the schedule for the distribution of the financial aid for PWDs was yesterday afternoon.
But some PWDs went to the San Nicholas Elementary School, the designated venue, as early as 6 a.m.
Reynante Langi, Gender and Development (GAD) barangay coordinator, said the barangay officials and employees had no idea about the scheduled distribution yesterday since Cebu City Hall didn’t coordinate with them.
Japson clarified that the schedule for the distribution was actually at 1 p.m.
Yesterday’s distribution was the third tranche for the financial aid for PWDs.
The city government hands out P5,000 per year to 10,590 qualified PWDs in the city.
