CEBUANO wingman Roger Ray Pogoy continues to raise his stock on the national stage as he was named to the 14-man lineup that will represent the country in the upcoming Fiba Asia Challenge Cup set on Sept. 9 to 18 in Tehran, Iran.
After helping Phoenix complete a sweep of the titles in the PBA D-League this season with a convincing Game 3 win over Tanduay the other day, Pogoy is setting his eyes on helping the country give a good account of itself in the upcoming tournament where they are currently bracketed in Group B along with India and Chinese Taipei.
Pogoy, a former standout of the University of Cebu before he was recruited to join Far Eastern University which he helped power to the title in the UAAP last year, will be joined by several familiar faces.
On the team are Gilas cadets Mac Belo, Kevin Ferrer, Mike Tolomia and Russel Escoto along with new additions Arnold Van Opstal, Ed Daquioag, Jaymar Perez, Alfonzo Gotladera, Carl Bryan Cruz, Chris Javier, Jonathan Grey, Von Pessumal and Almond Vosotros.
This new iteration of the national team will have to make do without the expected big names such as Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks and Jio Jalalon.
