Brown rice challenge launched

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) launched yesterday its Brown Rice for Good challenge to promote its consumption by the public and help charities at the same time.

Their launching in downtown Cebu City was attended by Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino and the information officers of various government agencies.

Cheche dela Victoria, information officer for the regional DA office, told reporters yesterday that those wishing to join their challenge should post photos of meals with brown rice in all their social media accounts using the hashtag “#brownrice4good7.”

Dela Victoria said each hashtag is equivalent to 100 grams of brown rice. Dela Victoria said they aim to generate at least 50,000 hash tags to achieve their target of having 100 sacks of brown rice for the charities that will receive these sacks as donation.

Dela Victoria said their main office is currently in negotiation with malls like Robinsons and SM for an agreement to require their concessionaires to sell brown rice to their customers.

Regional DA Technical Director Joel Elumba said brown rice contains more nutrients than white rice.
