OBO, Labangon condo contractor to meet after excavation accident

CEBU City’s Office of the Building Official (Obo) and the contractor of a condominium project in Barangay Labangon are set to meet on Monday to discuss the recent accident in their construction site.

According to Obo Chief Josefa Ylanan, she was supposed to meet the representatives from J.E. Abraham Lee Construction and Development yesterday, but they decided to postpone it as she had to attend other meeting.

“I was not able to meet them. I had to attend the executive legislative agenda at Quest Hotel. So we agreed to just meet on Monday. They already have their report, and they left it in my office,” Ylanan said.

Among the contents of the report, according to Ylanan, include the reason why the contractor’s soil protection for their excavation gave in and eroded which resulted in the death of a 20-year-old construction worker last Wednesday.

The Obo has already required the contractor to secure the construction site and to stop any other work in the area. However, they have been allowed to continue works on their soil protection to make sure that no further accidents occur in the construction site. “We hope that our barangay officials also help monitor the contractor at the construction site,” Ylanan said.

Ylanan added that their meeting on Monday will discuss the contractor’s plans for the project site as well as the violations and the penalties that will be imposed against them for the accident.
