Cobras face off with jaguars

AFTER PLAYING with fire and nearly getting burned by the University of San Carlos Warriors on Sunday, the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras will try to fire on all cylinders today when they take on a formidable foe in the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars today in the marquee match-up of the 16th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras bested the Warriors 58-54, thanks to some late-game heroics from Mac Tallo and John Lloyd Luz. It was a win that pushed the Cobras winning streak to seven games and put them atop the standings, a nudge ahead of the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, who hold a 6-1 (win-loss) card.

SWU-Phinma’s mettle, though, will be severely tested as they take on a Jaguars squad that is coming off an 84-65 pummeling of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers last Saturday, which upped their record to 4-2.

In high school action, the reeling Don Bosco Greywolves aim to get the winning touch back when they tangle with the CIT-U Wildkittens.

The much-improved Greywolves have lost two straight to drop to 4-2.
