Canoy battles Purisima in ‘Rumble sa Balamban’

VETERAN fighters Jason Canoy and Jetly Purisima cross paths anew in “Rumble sa Balamban,” a boxing extravaganza put up by Omega Pro Sports International and West Cebu Industrial Park slated Sept. 30 at the Balamban Sports Complex, western Cebu.

Canoy (25W-6L-2D-18KOs) of the Omega Boxing Gym and Purisima (21W-7L-1D-6KOs) fought to a technical draw four years ago after the latter was deemed unfit to continue to fight after sustaining a huge cut in the left eyebrow in the second round.

In the main supporting bout, Salatiel Amit (8-1-2, 6 KOs) will go up against veteran Rodel Tejares (20-39-7, 5 KOs).

Undercard fights will feature Rimon Rama (4-0-1, 3 KOs) versus Jomar Diana (2-4, 2 KOs); Mark Vicelles (3-0, 2 KOs) against Rodel Kirk Pelenio (3-1, 2 KOs); Ponciano Rimandiman (3-4-1, 2 KOs) versus Andrei Navarro; Ar-Ar Borbon (2-1-1, 2 KOs) against Roman Getalada; and Oliver Genecera (1-0, 1 KO) versus neophyte fighter Wilbert Rota.

As an added treat, two of Omega Boxing Gym’s top fighters will strut their wares in sparring matches.
Jhack Tepora, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Youth super bantamweight champion, will take on Ryan Quimbo in a three-round exhibition match, while World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia-Pacific bantamweight king Kenny Demecillo will test Junnie Salugaol in the other sparring match.
