CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmena pointed out the irony of his grandfather don Sergio Osmena Sr.’s title as the “Grand Old Man of Cebu”, saying his greatest accomplishments were done when he was a young man.

In a speech to commemorate Don Sergio Osmeña Sr.’s 138th birth anniversary, the mayor said he hopes that Don Sergio’s accomplishments and legacy would serve as an inspiration and instill faith in today’s youth.

Osmena’s speech was preceded by a Mass officiated by Fr. Raul Cabulao, OSA, and was attended by several members the Osmeña clan, including Toledo City Mayor Sonny Osmeña. It was followed by a floral offering ceremony.

Born on September 9, 1878, Osmeña was a former governor of Cebu and the fourth president of the country, otherwise known as the “Grand Old Man of Cebu”.
