Health professionals who are into running will have their own category in the Run For BB 7 Superheroes Run slated Oct. 2 starting at the Parkmall parking area in Mandaue City.

Physicians, registered nurses, physical therapists, medical technologists, pharmacists, radiologic technologists and other health professionals will have a chance to stand out as they will have a separate class for themselves in the fun run that features 16-kilometer, 8K, 4K and 2K distances.

During a press conference for the event yesterday at the Chikaan restaurant at Parkmall, the president of Philippine Nurses’ Association (PNA) Cebu Chapter Joseph Stephen Descallar said he encouraged nursing students and working nurses to join the event, which aims to help children who are going through cancer therapy.

The event organized by Code Blue Running Team is now on its seventh year and will be donating all its proceeds to the Kythe Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization which gives assistance to indigent children with cancer and other chronic illness.

Race organizer Naomi Fajardo said they were able to raise P50,000 cash in last year’s event.

“We hope to raise more funds this year because Kythe Foundation has now about 100 children under its care,” she said.

Also present during the press conference were Shalon Rea Bernales and Christopher James Mabuyo, the representatives of the Kythe Foundation Inc.

The race will also have an open category for all the distances except for the 2k, which was included for those who are not into running but still want to help save children.

Cash prizes will be given to the top 3 runners in the open category of the 16K, 8K and 4K. All the finishers in the 16K will also receive a medal. Winners in the medical class won’t have a cash prize but will be recognized.

Registration fee is pegged at P650 for the 16K, P450 for the 8K, P350 for the 4K and P350 for the 2K inclusive of singlet, race bib, and snacks.

Registration sites are at the PNA Clubhouse along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City, Parkmall Concierge, Runnr Store in Ayala Center Cebu, Mendero Medical Center and Infinitea Stores.
